The Pivot Year

Today is the last day I’m 40. It seems so crazy to type those words. Time is in hyper speed. Wasn’t it just my high school graduation, my 21st birthday, my 30th birthday, my wedding and the birth of my child? Crazy as it is another year flew by, 40 was a pivot year. And 41? I’m thinking it’s going to be the best year yet.

I knew I wanted to document the moment in time where my husband and I were both 40 and in a few months we were sending our child off to Kindergarten.

For some reason, I knew our lives were about to change and I wanted to freeze this moment.

Well…this year has been a wild ride! It’s been a year of incredible challenges, terrible lows and amazing highs. Padraig jumped into Kindergarten head first and flourished.

We experienced great hardship. Matt thrived in a new position at work. We mourned the loss of special friends and family. My business was growing. Padraig needed surgeries. We celebrated loved ones bringing children into the world. Padraig’s health improved drastically. Matt’s job awarded him tons of success and he was happier than ever. I attended events in Detroit, joined moms groups, started teaching knitting again and networked like crazy. I was finding myself and starting to discover my purpose alongside motherhood. Matt and I got our schedules aligned so Padraig got dropped off and picked up by a parent every day, a goal we were striving for. Everything was humming along nicely, yet I had this feeling I wanted to more. I wanted something of my own.

One night I turned to Matt and said, “what if I had this site where people could find all the fun things to do? You know, like free days at museums, free concerts, special pricing for plays, library events, stellar happy hours at nice restaurants, travel deals…I’d basically post all the frugal things I’m planning on doing, but none of our friends have to text me looking for updates? They could just go to this one spot. It’d be easy.” Matt replied, “I’ve been waiting for you to say that.”

So, I’m doing the thing. Welcome to the site where I share my tips and tricks for DOING IT ALL with little funds. We live a pretty awesome life and don’t spend much money. Consider this space your hack for Living a Frugalful Life.

~Big thanks to Emma Burcusel for capturing these moments for our family. We are forever grateful. ~
